Windows Defender Ransomware protection – new feature? – Forums

I\’m one of the people who has used Windows Defender and whatever its predecessor was called (forget the name now) since Win 7 (IIRC) or even Vista.Noticed a feature the other day that I had not noticed until then: Ransomware protection, which was turned off by default. You can add folders for protection to protect against \”unauthorised changes by unfriendly applications.\” Does anyone know of its effectiveness? Not that we\’ve ever let our guard down by clicking on trojans (though touchpads on some of the laptops makes it awfully easy to do so unintentionally) or go to dodgy websites (ActiveX/javascript is turned off on our browsers and NoScript is also on by default except for trusted sites).

It basically only allows trusted apps or whitelisted apps to only access the files, nothing else.
