Buying an AMD 64… which Windows should I buy? – RedFlagDeals.com Forums

With my new AMD 64 computer, should I use the beta version of 64 bit XP for a year, and then switch to a new version of Windows? Seems kinda like a waste to drop $$ on XP Home when it will be outdated soon. Or, are the driver issues with the 64 bit beta version too much to overcome?

Divide your HD into two, maybe three, partition. The smaller partition is for the current Windows (XP32/XPhome), the second partition is for XP64. You can install any XP flavors to any partition you want. The good thing about doing it this way is to be able to dual-boot. Who knows, with the X64 beta, the rig might be crashing left and right, but you will have the other partition with the old reliable XP32 to boot on if something really serious happens. And, if you decide to have three partitions, the last partition should be for data. I think that will be the best practice.
